Ann Evans, 55, was reported missing after she failed to return to the ship on Nov. 20, while it was docked in Philipsburg, Sint Maarten.

On Thursday, Nov. 27, the Police Force of Sint Maarten (KPSM) shared that they had conducted “extensive checks and followed multiple lines of information in accordance with legal guidelines.”

Authorities said there is reason to believe that a woman matching Evans’ description checked into a hotel on the French side of the island using her passport and was reportedly seen nearby. KPSM is coordinating with French authorities to verify the information.

A Holland America spokesperson confirmed to PEOPLE, “Police reported on their social media page that a woman matching the guest’s description and using her passport checked into a hotel on the French side of the island, and we are awaiting further confirmation from authorities.”

Evans had left the ship at around 10:00 a.m. local time on Nov. 20 to join an organized island tour. She is believed to have disembarked the bus in Marigot, French Saint Martin, but did not return to the bus or the cruise shipMs. Ann Evans; Holland America Line cruise ship "Rotterdam"
