The Kansas City Chiefs may not be finished rebuilding their defense just yet.
According to ESPN insider Adam Schefter, former Chiefs cornerback L’Jarius Sneed is scheduled to visit Kansas City, opening the door to a potential reunion that few fans expected to see just a couple of years ago.
For Chiefs Kingdom, the name Sneed brings back memories of championship football.
After being selected by Kansas City in the 2020 NFL Draft, Sneed quickly developed into one of Steve Spagnuolo’s most trusted defenders. His ability to play both outside cornerback and nickel corner made him one of the most versatile pieces in the Chiefs’ secondary during their Super Bowl runs.
During four seasons in Kansas City, Sneed recorded:
🏈 303 total tackles
🏈 40 pass breakups
🏈 10 interceptions
🏈 4 forced fumbles
🏆 2 Super Bowl Championships
His physical style, versatility and ability to shadow elite receivers helped make him a cornerstone of the Chiefs defense.
That success eventually earned him a move to the Tennessee Titans in 2024.
Unfortunately, things never fully worked out.
Injuries became a major obstacle for Sneed in Tennessee. Knee and quadriceps issues limited his availability and prevented him from returning to the level Chiefs fans had become accustomed to seeing.
Over two seasons with the Titans, he appeared in only 12 games before ultimately becoming available again.
Now, a return to Kansas City could provide exactly what both sides need.
Why A Reunion Makes Sense
The Chiefs secondary looks very different heading into the 2026 season.
Trent McDuffie was traded to the Los Angeles Rams.
Jaylen Watson departed in free agency.
Kansas City responded by drafting talented rookie Mansoor Delane and adding several young defensive backs, but there remains uncertainty at multiple cornerback spots.
Training camp battles are expected at nickel corner and depth positions.
Adding a veteran like Sneed would immediately bring experience, leadership and familiarity with Spagnuolo’s defensive system.
Perhaps most importantly, Sneed already knows what it takes to win in Kansas City.
Few players understand the demands of the Chiefs’ championship culture better than someone who helped build it.
Could This Be One Of The Smartest Moves Of The Offseason?
Kansas City doesn’t necessarily need Sneed to return as a full-time star.
What they need is reliable depth, flexibility and veteran leadership in a secondary that has undergone significant changes.
If healthy, Sneed could compete for meaningful snaps immediately while also serving as a mentor for younger defensive backs entering the league.
For Sneed, the opportunity is equally attractive.
A return to Arrowhead would reunite him with coaches who know how to maximize his strengths and place him back on a legitimate Super Bowl contender.
Sometimes the best career move is returning to where everything started.
Chiefs Kingdom Waiting For An Answer
At this point, no deal has been signed.
The visit is simply the first step.
But the possibility alone has already generated excitement among Chiefs fans.
A former Super Bowl champion returning home.
A proven veteran looking for redemption.
And a Chiefs defense searching for another piece to complete the puzzle.
The reunion isn’t official yet.
But it might be getting closer than anyone expected.
