Sarah Paulson was visibly emotional on Thursday evening as she spoke publicly for the first time about the death of her close friend, Diane Keaton, at the premiere of All’s Fair.
The 50-year-old actress teared up on the red carpet as she reflected on the passing of her “very dear friend.”
“It’s not something I’m able to talk about yet,” the American Horror Story star told Access Hollywood at the Los Angeles event. “But all I can say — which is important for me to communicate — [is that] what you thought she was as a performer, she was even more spectacular as a human being.”
Paulson described herself as “the luckiest person in the world” to have had Keaton in her life, and shared a heartfelt embrace with the journalist at the end of the interview.
Speaking separately to The Hollywood Reporter, the Emmy winner admitted, “I was incredibly close to her, and this is a profoundly sad time for me. I can’t talk about it in any way that’s articulate.”
She reiterated her love and admiration for the late actress, adding, “For all you knew and loved about her as a performer, she was even more as a friend.”
Keaton’s passing made headlines over the weekend after her family confirmed that the beloved Annie Hall star had died at the age of 79 from pneumonia.
According to reports and close friends, her health “declined very suddenly” following a mystery illness.
Although Paulson did not immediately release a public statement, she was photographed visiting Keaton’s Los Angeles home on Saturday, where she appeared visibly emotional while gathering with others to pay their respects.
