PAPA MEETS PAPA King Charles set to meet the new Pope on visit to Vatican City next month

KING Charles will meet the new Pope on a visit to Vatican City next month, The Sun can reveal.

Leo XIV became the Pope — known as “Il Papa” — in May after the death of predecessor Francis, aged 88.King Charles III and US President Donald Trump during a State Visit.

Charles and Queen Camilla will spend around two days on a State visit to Rome’s Vatican City in October — their only foreign trip of the autumn.

They were set to hold a State visit there in April but it was postponed due to Francis’s ill-health.

Instead, they spent just four days in Italy and Francis held a short private audience with his royal guests on their 20th wedding anniversary, days before his death.

The whistle-stop trip to see Pope Leo — real name Robert Prevost — comes 11 months after Buckingham Palace insisted the King and Queen would embark on a full itinerary of foreign tours in 2025.

Long foreign tours are usually held in the spring or autumn.Pope Leo XIV smiling and wearing white vestments and a zucchetto.

However, Charles and Camilla’s Vatican City visit is due to last just a few days.

The much-loved King — traditionally known by royal children as “papa” — is still having cancer treatment 19 months after his diagnosis.

But insiders insist Charles, 76, can carry out full foreign tours and point out he has hosted two State visits from France and the US this year.

A third State visit at Windsor Castle is due soon.

And there are plans for the King and Queen, 78, to go to the US in a State visit next April.
