A woman was reportedly sexually assaulted at a busy London Underground station. Investigating officers from British Transport Police (BTP) have released an e-fit image of a man they would like to identify following the alleged attack.

Police said the woman was sexually assaulted at Gants Hill Underground station shortly before 4pm on Sunday, August 17. The unknown offender reportedly attacked the woman at the station before running onto a train heading towards Stratford in east London. The force is now urging anyone with relevant information on what happened to get in touch as soon as possible.

DS Gough, of British Transport Police, said in a public appeal: “Unfortunately CCTV footage of the incident was unavailable in this particular case, so we are releasing an E-fit of a person we would like to speak to in connection.

“We believe that the man may have information which could help our investigation and urge anyone who recognises him to get in touch.”

The police force added: “Anyone with information is asked to contact British Transport Police by texting 61016 or by calling 0800 40 50 40, quoting reference 349 of 17 August. You can also contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.”

The appeal comes just days after a manhunt was launched after a woman was reportedly sexually assaulted while sleeping on board a train. Police said the victim was travelling between Edinburgh and Wolverhampton at around 9am on Thursday, October 23, when she woke up to a man sexually assaulting her.

A BTP spokesperson said: “Detectives investigating a sexual assault on board a train between Edinburgh and Wolverhampton are releasing this image in connection.

“At around 9am on Thursday, October 23, a woman travelling on the service woke up to a man sexually assaulting her. He then got off the train at Wolverhampton station. Detectives believe the man in the CCTV image may have information that could help with their investigation.”
