Greg Abbott bizarrely threatens ‘100% tariff’ on New Yorkers fleeing to Texas if Zohran Mamdani wins

Texas Gov. Greg Abbott threatened to slap New Yorkers with a “100% tariff” if they flee to the Lone Star State if Democratic socialist Zohran Mamdani is elected mayor.Texas Governor Greg Abbott speaking to reporters outside the White House.

“After the polls close tomorrow night, I will impose a 100% tariff on anyone moving to Texas from NYC,” the Republican governor tweeted on the eve of the mayoral election.

It wasn’t immediately clear why he wanted to punish new arrivals, or if such a tariff would even be possible.

Mamdani’s “Tax the rich” policy has long raised fears of a max exodus of New York City’s wealthiest residents — with a poll this week suggesting more than 750,000 would flee.

President Trump, for his part, threw his support behind Mamdani’s rival, former Gov. Andrew Cuomo, who is running as an independent, just hours before New Yorkers took to polling booths.

“Whether you personally like Andrew Cuomo or not, you really have no choice. You must vote for him, and hope he does a fantastic job. He is capable of it, Mamdani is not!” Trump wrote on Truth Social. He also threatened to withhold federal funds from the Big Apple if Mamdani is victorious.People vote at a polling location in the High School of Art and Design in Manhattan, New York City.
