Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs fell to 2-3 on the 2025 NFL season after losing to Trevor Lawrence and the Jacksonville Jaguars 31-28 in Week 5’s edition of “Monday Night Football.” Now, Mahomes and the Chiefs will look to get back to .500 when Jared Goff and the Detroit Lions come to town in Week 6.
Despite a slow start for Kansas City, Mahomes has been one of the team’s few bright spots. The two-time NFL MVP has thrown for 1,257 yards, eight touchdowns and two interceptions, while adding 190 rushing yards and scoring three TDs. He’s done so despite missing one of his top wide receivers, Rashee Rice, who will serve the final game of his six-game suspension in Week 6. Second-year wideout Xavier Worthy also missed time after colliding with Travis Kelce in Week 1 and suffering a shoulder injury.

Worthy returned in the Week 4 win over Lamar Jackson and the Baltimore Ravens and suited up against the Jaguars despite being a late addition to the injury report as questionable. In two games, he has recorded 11 catches for 125 yards and added another 47 yards on the ground.
Leading up to the matchup with the Lions, Worthy was listed as a full participant in Wednesday’s practice session due to his shoulder/ankle issue. But on Thursday, KSHB 41’s McKenzie Nelson reported that Worthy did not practice.
“The Chiefs say Xavier Worthy will not practice today (shoulder/ankle) #Chiefskingdom,” Nelson wrote on X.
Worthy’s absence from practice could just be a precautionary measure as he is still likely recovering. But on the bright side for the Chiefs, everyone else did practice.
Mahomes and the Chiefs will face the Lions on Sunday at 8:20 p.m. ET on NBC and Peacock.
