Coronation Street fans think they have been ‘robbed’ from witnessing a particular moment they had hoped for as Roy Cropper was saved from his burning cafe.

Spoilers previously revealed that the Weatherfield legend would be left in danger when a fire breaks out at Roy’s Rolls. The horror scenes aired during Sunday’s (April 12) edition of the ITV soap, with Mal Roper revelead as the culprit in a twisted revenge plot.

The drama occured when Roy and his niece, Nina Lucas headed off on a bat watch. But when Roy admitted to feeling unwell during the trip and returned home to find the cafe had no electricity. Making the decision to close up early, Roy headed to bed to try and sleep off his sickness.

What he didn’t know was Mal, who had decided to leave after a series of fake reviews were left by Jodie Ramsey about his business as she stuck up for Bernie Winter, who he’d been tormenting for months, was watching from a distance.

As Roy lay in his bed, Mal let himself into the cafe and set the place alight. Outside, Bernie, her husband Dev Alahan, and neighbour Brian Packham watched on as dark plumes of smoke billowed out of the cafe flat’s windows while a smoke alarm blared. It wasn’t long before a panicked Carla Connor arrived on the scene.

The Underworld factory boss, who sees Roy as a father figure, was reassured that Roy wasn’t home, as he’d headed out to a bat convention with Nina. Worried, she repeatedly called Roy before crying: “His things! I wish they’d hurry up. I mean, he’s not into his possessions, is he all Hayley’s things are up there, his trains… His whole world’s in that flat.”

While she tried to get a hold of Nina instead, Jodie appeared and realised what was going on, rushed towards the cafe and let herself in, explaining Roy had returned early and was inside. She ended up running straight into danger and, as Carla was stopped from following her in, Jodie found Mal inside, throwing petrol around, blaming Roy for him even coming to Weatherfield in the first place.

When Jodie asked if it was his plan to kill him, it was clear Mal didn’t know Roy was home, and, springing into action, he helped Jodie rescue Roy, who was lead out by the pair and quickly scooped up by Carla and a paramedic. He was later seen in the hospital, with Carla holding vigil at his bedside.

And it was the moment that Carla wanted to help save her friend that got Corrie viewers talking, as they were hoping her soon-to-be wife would also be involved in the dramatic scenes.

One said: “That’s her dad! [crying emojis]. I wanted it to be Lisa holding Carla back from running in tho #swarla #corrie.” Another commented: “Can you imagine if that was Lisa holding her back and not Dev! The scenes we could’ve had! You had one job #Corrie.” Another fan replied: “It would have been amazing to have lisa be the one to hold carla back.”

A fourth shared: “Carla is extremely worried and concerned. No hesitation Carla was always going to try to run in to save Roy! Although it would have been better if Lisa was holding her back! #corrie #Swarla.” A fifth posted: “I know we are being blessed next week with the wedding of the century but would is have killed Corrie to have Lisa in today’s episode supporting Carla? WOULD IT!” A viewer also wrote: “What a missed opportunity tho, I sooo wanted Lisa to be the one holding Carla back.”
