Coronation Street star Gareth Pierce has revealed Todd Grimshaw’s reaction as Theo Silverton is finally caught out. The star’s character has been suffering abuse at the hands of partner Theo, with the harrowing scenes taking place secretly behind closed doors.
While other characters are unaware of what is going on, George Shuttleworth has his suspicions around Theo, and next week he will air his concerns after Theo once again gains control over Todd following their recent split.
“George is seeing past him, seeing into his friend’s experience, even if he doesn’t know the full extent of it,” he added. “I think sometimes when we’re seen, we can either crumble and admit how bad things are, or the defences go up and Todd almost campaigns for Theo.
“It’s the place Theo has actually got Todd to, where sometimes Todd will do the campaigning on Theo’s behalf.”
While he feels “shame and humiliation” and is “starting to realise he’s trapped in something very destructive”, Gareth admitted that Todd is sadly “so deep into it it’s become hard to see a way out”.
However, there is a glimmer of hope next week when Theo is finally caught out by George, who goes to visit Todd in the aftermath of Theo’s surprise wedding. Theo returns to a seemingly empty flat, and assumes that he can hear Todd in the bathroom. After unleashing a tirade of abuse, he is shocked to see George emerge, his true colours now exposed, while Todd returns home having nipped out for some tea bags.Gareth revealed that Todd has a “mixture of feelings” at the turn of events, and with George fighting his corner, being seen by someone he loves “starts to chip through”.
