Keir Starmer has been derided this evening after it was spotted that the House of Commons has seemingly given up claiming he answers questions at PMQs. Throughout last year the Commons’ official X account was ridiculed on a weekly basis, for repeatedly claiming that on Wednesdays Sir Keir appeared in the chamber and “answered questions from MPs”.

This language was repeated in every week’s social media post from the official House of Commons account to promote the major parliamentary spat between the PM and Kemi Badenoch. However the Express can reveal that even the House of Commons has acknowledged that the Prime Minister rarely answers the questions put to him by MPs. Since the new year, the language of the weekly social media posts has changed.

It now reads: “Today Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer faced questions from MPs in @houseofcommons.”

When this change was pointed out by the Express, a senior Tory source quipped: “As his popularity has tanked, Starmer has basically stopped trying to answer even moderately probing questions.

“He grips his red folder like a life buoy, bleating his pre-scripted lines and never thinking on his feet.

“There’s no charm, no answers and no substance. He’s a Prime Minister in office but not in control.”

The Tory chief blasted: “He didn’t answer the question about business rates, it sounds like he doesn’t know what his policy is and this has been a farce from start to finish!”

A House of Commons spokesperson said: “We provide content across a range of channels to signpost and explain the business of the House of Commons, with content regularly refreshed and updated.”
