Steven Spielberg is looking to the skies once again — and he’s bringing a stacked cast with him.
On Tuesday, Dec. 16, Universal Pictures unveiled the first trailer for Spielberg’s mysterious new UFO thriller, Disclosure Day, marking the legendary director’s long-awaited return to science fiction. The film is set to hit theaters on June 12, 2026.
Starring Emily Blunt, Josh O’Connor, Colin Firth, Eve Hewson, Colman Domingo, and more, the project is already fueling speculation with its ominous tone and tightly guarded plot.
The official logline hints at something world-shaking:
“If you found out we weren’t alone — if someone proved it to you — would that frighten you? This summer, the truth belongs to seven billion people. We are coming close to… Disclosure Day.”
Spielberg, now 78, first began developing the UFO film in early 2024, according to Variety, working from an original idea alongside longtime collaborator David Koepp. The screenwriter previously teamed up with Spielberg on blockbuster classics including Jurassic Park, War of the Worlds and Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.
Adding to the nostalgia, John Williams is set to compose the score — marking his 30th collaboration with Spielberg across their legendary careers.
The studio has been building intrigue for weeks. Cryptic billboards began popping up in Times Square and Los Angeles on Dec. 10, reading simply:
“All will be disclosed — Spielberg 06.12.26.”
Spielberg’s most recent film, The Fabelmans (2022), earned seven Academy Award nominations. With Disclosure Day, he returns to the genre that helped define his legacy through films like Close Encounters of the Third Kind, E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial and War of the Worlds.
One thing is clear: Spielberg is ready to make us believe again.
Disclosure Day opens in theaters June 12, 2026.
