With training camp just around the corner, speculation is beginning to heat up around veteran wide receiver Brandin Cooks. Several analysts have mentioned the Kansas City Chiefs as one of the possible landing spots if the former Pro Bowler doesn’t return to Buffalo.
It’s only a rumor for now—but it’s an interesting one.
At 32 years old, Cooks may no longer be the explosive deep threat he once was, but he still brings experience, reliable hands, and the ability to stretch the field when healthy. Having played in multiple offensive systems throughout his career, he could adapt quickly to Andy Reid’s offense and provide another dependable target for Patrick Mahomes.
What could the Chiefs gain?
✅ Veteran leadership. Cooks has spent over a decade in the NFL and has played in big games. That experience could be valuable for a young receiving room.
✅ More depth at wide receiver. Injuries happen every season. Adding another proven receiver would give Mahomes another trusted option if the younger players struggle.
✅ A field-stretching presence. Even if he’s no longer at his peak, defenses still have to respect Cooks’ speed, potentially creating more space for Travis Kelce and the rest of the offense.
But there are questions as well.
What could the Chiefs lose?
❌ Playing time for young receivers. Every snap given to Cooks is one less opportunity for Kansas City’s younger talent to develop.
❌ Salary cap flexibility. Even on a team-friendly contract, every dollar matters for a franchise that is constantly managing its cap around a championship roster.
❌ Age and durability concerns. Cooks has dealt with injuries in recent seasons. The Chiefs would have to decide whether the potential reward outweighs the risk.
At this stage, nothing suggests a deal is close. It’s simply one of many offseason rumors circulating before training camp begins.
Still, it’s a fascinating question for Chiefs Kingdom.
If Brandin Cooks were available on the right contract… would you sign him? Or would you rather trust the young receivers already on the roster?
