Melissa Gilbert Breaks Silence After Husband Timothy Busfield Turns Himself In on Child Sex Abuse Charges

Melissa Gilbert has spoken out after her husband, The West Wing actor Timothy Busfield, surrendered to police in New Mexico amid explosive child sex abuse allegations — firmly standing by his side as the legal battle unfolds.

Busfield, 68, voluntarily turned himself in on Tuesday after an arrest warrant was issued charging him with two counts of criminal sexual contact with a minor and one count of child abuse. The allegations stem from claims that he inappropriately touched two young boys while directing the TV series The Cleaning Lady between 2022 and 2024.

In a video filmed outside his attorney’s office and obtained by TMZ, the Emmy-winning actor forcefully denied the accusations.Vợ của Timothy Busfield, Melissa Gilbert, đã lên tiếng sau khi nam diễn viên phim West Wing tự nguyện đầu thú với cơ quan thực thi pháp luật vì bị cáo buộc tội xâm hại tình dục trẻ em - ảnh chụp năm 2020.

“I will confront these lies,” Busfield said. “I did not do anything to those little boys.”

Shortly afterward, Gilbert — best known for her iconic role on Little House on the Prairie — released a carefully worded statement through her representative, making clear that she is standing with her husband, even as she refrains from speaking publicly.

“Melissa Gilbert is not making public statements at this time,” the statement said. “Any purported ‘statements’ circulating online — including AI-generated deepfakes of her ‘breaking her silence’ — should not be treated as coming from her.”

The representative added that Gilbert is honoring the request of Busfield’s legal team to remain silent while proceedings are ongoing, saying her focus is on supporting her husband and caring for their “very large family” during what was described as an intensely difficult moment.

“Melissa stands with and supports her husband and will address the public at an appropriate time,” the statement concluded, requesting privacy for the family.

Busfield’s civil attorney, Stanton “Larry” Stein, also strongly defended his client in a statement obtained by Daily Mail, insisting the actor is innocent and determined to clear his name.

“Tim voluntarily appeared before New Mexico authorities after traveling across the country to confront these false and deeply troubling allegations,” Stein said. “He is innocent and is determined to clear his name.”

Stein further claimed the accusations were motivated by revenge, alleging that the mother of the boys vowed to retaliate after her children were not invited back for the show’s final season. He cited a prior independent investigation conducted for Warner Bros., which reportedly found no corroborating evidence of misconduct or that Busfield was ever alone with the children on set.

Despite the denials, the arrest warrant outlines disturbing claims. According to court documents, concerns were first raised in November 2024 after hospital staff reported potential grooming behavior on the studio set. Investigators allege Busfield encouraged the boys to call him “Uncle Tim” and would tickle them despite their discomfort.

While no sexual touching was initially reported, one parent later contacted Child Protective Services in October 2025, alleging that her child disclosed sexual abuse. The affidavit states the child told a therapist that Busfield touched his genitalia and buttocks in a bedroom on set.

Busfield has acknowledged having “playful” contact with the children but has repeatedly denied any wrongdoing, maintaining the allegations are “horrible lies.”

After turning himself in, Busfield appeared visibly frail and exhausted in his mugshot at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Bernalillo County, where he is currently being held. His first court appearance is scheduled for Wednesday afternoon.

The arrest warrant also claims Busfield and Gilbert maintained a close relationship with the boys’ family outside of work, including attending social gatherings and buying the children Christmas gifts — a detail prosecutors say may have fostered inappropriate closeness.

Busfield and Gilbert have been married since 2013 and celebrated their 12th wedding anniversary last April. At the time, Gilbert publicly described their marriage as “perfect.” Her last social media photo with Busfield was posted in December 2025, shortly before the arrest warrant became public. She later deleted her Instagram account.

As the case moves forward, the once-beloved Hollywood couple now finds themselves at the center of a scandal that continues to send shockwaves through the entertainment industry — with both sides vowing to fight fiercely over what they say is the truth.
