While it is not known whether King Charles and his daughter-in-law Meghan Markle share a close bond anymore, especially since she quit royal life alongside Prince Harry in 2020, it is believed the pair once got on really well. In the early days of her life as a working royal, which ended up being short-lived, it is widely reported that Meghan, 44, impressed her father-in-law so much that she got given a very surprising nickname from him.
Although the King has never been heard in public calling Meghan by this nickname before, it is believed he used to refer to her as “tungsten”. This is reportedly a hard and brittle metal that has the highest melting point of any known element, making the name a compliment to Meghan in reference to her strength and capability.
Royal experts over the years have said the monarch came up with this nickname as a result of her “tough” nature, with a palace insider having also once said it was used as a term of endearment.

As reported by Instyle, when Meghan was a working royal, during the days when the King was The Prince of Wales, a palace source told the Mail on Sunday: “Prince Charles admires Meghan for her strength and the backbone she gives Harry, who needs a tungsten-type figure in his life as he can be a bit of a softy.
“It’s become a term of endearment.”
Meghan herself has never publicly addressed this nickname she used to be given by King Charles.
This is also not the only nickname she went by, and continues to go by, with Prince Harry – her husband of seven years – also having affectionate names for his wife. These names are ones he continues to use to this day as the couple enjoy life in Montecito with their two children.

It is believed the duke often calls Meghan “meg” or “M” rather than her full name, with Meghan in return calling him “H”.
Speaking on the Jamie Kern Lima Show earlier this year, Meghan revealed that the nicknames of “M” and “H” go back to the couple’s early dating days when they were trying to keep their relationship private.
She said: “I couldn’t tell anyone who I was dating, and who was keeping [the secret]. So I think we were just on a letter basis.”
