Prime minister Keir Starmer faced a fresh blow as GB News presenter Patrick Christys issued a scathing rant at the UK leader over the latest Downing Street crisis. This comes after his Chief of Staff, Morgan McSweeney, was blamed for a botched effort to prevent a leadership challenge after coup claims. After the Prime minister failed to defend Mr McSweeney with a firm backing during Wednesday’s (November 12) PMQs, the leader now faces calls to sack the No 10 chief of staff.
During his late-night GB News show, Patrick stated: “Good evening, Sir Keir Starmer is a dead man walking. Last week, news broke that newly elected Labour MPs met in secret to discuss how they could get rid of the Prime minister.” He added: “Then last night, news broke that Downing Street thought the Health Secretary, Wes Streeting, was launching a coup. They also believed that Shabana Mahmood, Ed Miliband and Angela Rayner wanted him out.”

Patrick continued: “Apparently, Wes Streeting had 50 frontbench Labour MPs willing to resign if or when Rachel Reeves‘ disaster budget goes badly in a couple of weeks’ time.
“When it comes to Wes Streeting, though, he’s always been hiding in plain sight,” the broadcaster added as he played an old clip of Streeting saying: “It’ll probably be me” when asked about who would be the next leader of the UK.
Despite this, the Health Secretary has strongly denied claims that he is plotting to take Starmer’s job and brushed off the claims as “nonsense.”
In a BBC interview on Wednesday (November 12), Streeting said he could “not see any circumstances under which I would do that to our prime minister”.
He joked that briefings to the press against him were “the worst attack on a faithful since Joe Marler was banished in The Traitors’ final … someone has definitely been watching too much Celebrity Traitors. They should swap to Countryfile.”

The Health Secretary also insisted he was “not challenging the Prime Minister,” and added: “I’m not doing any of the things some silly briefer said overnight.”
However, during an NHS Providers conference, unlike Starmer, Streeting defended McSweeney amid calls for his firing and stated: “One thing I would say for Morgan McSweeney is there wouldn’t be a Labour government without him.”
In a post-PMQs huddle, Downing Street attempted to mitigate the damage after being asked if Sir Keir had confidence in Mr McSweeney, to which a spokesperson said: “Yes, as expressed in the House.”
The Prime minister said: “Morgan McSweeney, my team and I are absolutely focused on delivering for the country.”
But, significantly, he added: “Let me be clear, of course I have never authorised attacks on cabinet members. I appointed them to their posts because they are the best people to carry out their jobs.”
