Katy Perry has scored a major legal victory in her drawn-out fight over a Montecito, California, mansion she purchased over five years ago.
The court has ordered Carl Westcott, an 85-year-old disabled veteran and the property’s former owner, to pay Perry $1.84 million. The payout comes after a judge ruled that the pop star lost out on significant rental income due to the lengthy legal battle, according to People.
The dispute revolved around the $15 million Montecito estate that Perry, 41, and her ex, Orlando Bloom, 48, bought in July 2020. Just days after signing the contract, Westcott tried to back out. He claimed he was recovering from major back surgery and under heavy medication, which left him too impaired to fully understand the sale. He also cited his Huntington’s Disease diagnosis from 2015 as evidence he lacked the capacity to approve the multimillion-dollar deal.
Perry and Bloom’s legal team pushed back, insisting that Westcott was fully aware of what he was agreeing to. Perry’s business manager suggested Westcott simply had seller’s remorse after realizing he could have earned more in a booming real estate market.
Ultimately, the judge sided with Perry, declaring that Westcott was “coherent, engaged, lucid and rational” when he authorized the sale. This decision blocked his attempt to cancel the deal.
Even after securing the mansion title in May 2024, the fight didn’t end. On November 21, 2025, Perry filed for damages, claiming the prolonged delay prevented her from renting out the property and that the estate had fallen into disrepair, requiring costly repairs.
Initially, Perry sought nearly $5 million—over $3.5 million in lost rental income and more than $1.3 million in repair costs. After reviewing extensive financial records, property assessments, and expert testimony, the judge awarded her $1.84 million. This figure accounted for rental losses, offsets for retained capital and interest, and approved repair costs.
The mansion itself is a 2.5-acre paradise, featuring eight bedrooms, 11 bathrooms, multiple guest spaces, sweeping ocean views, manicured grounds, an infinity pool, a jacuzzi, and plenty of privacy. While Perry and Bloom officially gained control months ago, it remains unclear if they ever moved in before splitting in June 2025.
