Kate Middleton Showcases Her Interior Design Flair at New ‘Forever Home’
Kate Middleton is putting her artistic knowledge and interior design experience to good use in her and Prince William’s new family home. The couple, along with their children — Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis — recently moved into their “forever” home at Forest Lodge in Windsor. They are settling in while managing royal engagements and the kids’ return to school after fall half-term.
The move, which was originally planned for closer to Christmas, was completed ahead of schedule thanks to the builders accelerating the process.
Kate, who has previously contributed to decorating their past royal residences — including Nottingham Cottage, Anmer Hall, Adelaide Cottage, and Apartment 1A at Kensington Palace — has likely been planning for Forest Lodge for months.
Forest Lodge, with its eight bedrooms, offers much more space than Adelaide Cottage, giving Kate ample room to showcase her signature “contemporary classic” style, as noted in a recent feature by MailOnline.
In September, Kate visited Marina Mills, a family-run business in Cuxton known for furnishing Buckingham Palace and Clarence House. It is believed she may have selected some hand-printed pieces during this visit. Forest Lodge will also feature a massive antique dining table that seats 24, ideal for future family gatherings, especially as William eventually becomes king.
Kate’s eye for design has been honed over years of royal residence decorating and likely draws on her art history degree from the University of St. Andrews. Her talents even impressed Prince Harry, who described her makeover of the Kensington Palace apartment in his 2023 memoir Spare as “magnificent,” praising the wallpaper, ceiling trim, walnut bookshelves, and carefully curated artworks.
Harry recalled that he and Meghan Markle, then living in Nottingham Cottage, felt both impressed and slightly self-conscious about their simpler furnishings compared to Kate’s luxurious touches.:max_bytes(150000):strip_icc():focal(804x481:806x483):format(webp)/barack-obama-prince-william-catherine-prince-george-michelle-prince-harry-london-081925-8b85c6e5426d47479d19c6ecc02745cb.jpg)
Following the move, William and Kate expressed gratitude to everyone involved in the quick transition. On November 2, the Daily Mail reported that the couple hosted a private party at The York Club, a local pub, thanking the staff and crew who made the early move possible.
“The couple very sweetly just wanted to say thank you to everyone who has worked tirelessly to help,” a source told the outlet.
With Forest Lodge as their new family home, Kate Middleton now has the perfect canvas to continue showcasing her refined design sensibilities while creating a space for the family to enjoy for years to come.
