John Stamos fires back when asked if he would leave wife Caitlin McHugh for Lori Loughlin after Mossimo Giannulli split

Have mercy!

John Stamos has set the record straight regarding whether he would leave his wife, Caitlin McHugh, for Lori Loughlin amid the fellow “Full House” alum’s separation from Mossimo Giannulli.Lori Loughlin and John Stamos attend the 2018 Creative Arts Emmy Awards at Microsoft Theater on September 8, 2018 in Los Angeles, California.

The surprising incident unfolded during the episode of Ben Soffer and Josh Peck’s “Good Guys” podcast released Monday, shortly after Stamos opened up about his and Loughlin’s rumored romantic history.“A lot of people think, ‘Oh, you guys were romantic,’ or whatever,” the actor, 62, began. “You know, I happened to say she was the one that got away in something — I think it was before I met Caitlin — and, you know, it was an interesting thing.”

“I wrote about in the book, there was a very small window of the two of us being single at the same time,” he continued regarding his 2023 memoir, “If You Would Have Told Me.”Caitlin McHugh and John Stamos at Jeff Ross' "Take A Banana For The Ride" Broadway Opening Night held at Nederlander Theatre on August 18, 2025 in New York, New York.

Despite starring together as the married couple Uncle Jesse and Aunt Becky in “Full House” and again more recently in “Fuller House,” Stamos made it clear that the pair were never romantically involved.“There was a moment where I had the choice, I think, and I was more into the rebellious,” he explained while comparing Loughlin, 61, to ex-wife Rebecca Romijn. “Lori was so sweet, and I loved working with her, but she was too nice for me.”Loughlin and Stamos at the 5th annual Race to Erase MS Gala on November 14, 1997, at the Century Plaza Hotel in Los Angeles.

As for Loughlin’s recent separation from Giannulli after nearly 28 years of marriage, Stamos said that he and McHugh have been there to support the “When Calls the Heart” actress.

“It’s not a clear thing all the time with something like this,” he shared. “She lives in my neighborhood, Lori, and so, you know, I was over there a lot and she came to our house a couple times and Caitlin’s been good about it.”

But the podcast took a turn for the worse after Soffer and Peck joked that “the biggest question” fans submitted before the episode started was whether Stamos would “ever leave your wife for” Loughlin.

“No f–king way!” Stamos fired back. “I’m not Mormon. Do you do that with your wife? Are you a swinger?”

However, the “ER” alum suggested that he and Loughlin may have shared one romantic moment during their otherwise “always platonic” relationship.

“I always thought that we made out on some ride at Disneyland — I’ve known her since the early ’80s,” Stamos said regarding a time when the pair were both single. “I remembered, I think she said it didn’t happen.”

“So, I don’t know if it was something I made up in my mind,” he added. “You know, some kind of fantasy.”Lori Loughlin and John Stamos attend the premiere of Netflix's "Fuller House" at Pacific Theatres at The Grove on February 16, 2016 in Los Angeles, California.

Stamos went on to marry Romijn, 52, in 1998 before they divorced in 2005. He then married McHugh, 39, in 2018. The couple welcomed their son, Billy, 7, in 2018.

Loughlin, meanwhile, was married to film exec Michael Burns from 1980 to 1996. She was then with Giannulli from 1997 until their separation earlier this month. The pair share two daughters: Olivia Jade, 26, and Isabella Rose, 27.

Elsewhere during the podcast, Stamos lamented his former co-star’s split from the famous fashion designer after almost 28 years of marriage.John Stamos and Lori Loughlin in "Full House."

“I’m just heartbroken for her right now,” he shared. “She’s just devastated. For a girl who has lived her life really well, a good person, a good mother, a good wife — I know all this for a fact — to be thrown into now this separation and exploding, blowing up her family this way.”“

I just hate to see her go through this,” he added. “I really do.”Lori Loughlin and John Stamos in "Full House."
