Ireland Baldwin Slams Kim Kardashian Over Controversial Elephant-Print Birkin Bag in All’s Fair
Ireland Baldwin is not holding back. The 30-year-old actress called out Kim Kardashian for carrying what appears to be an elephant leather Birkin bag while filming Hulu’s legal drama, All’s Fair
The fashion Instagram account Birkin Junky, run by Daniel Wesson, shared a clip of Kardashian, 45, holding the gray Hermès purse on set. Alongside Kardashian, the show stars Sarah Paulson, Glenn Close, Niecy Nash, and Naomi Watts as a group of female divorce attorneys launching their own law practice.
Baldwin commented on Instagram, calling the bag “beyond” and “so disgusting and shameful,” adding, “I don’t understand how these people are supported the way they are.”
While Baldwin is critical, her cousin Hailey Bieber is close friends with the Kardashian family, particularly Kendall and Kylie Jenner. A representative for Kardashian did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
Wesson explained in his post that Hermès no longer produces elephant leather bags. “Back in the ’80s, they were made via custom order using elephant hides brought in by clients from hunting safaris,” he wrote. “They rarely appear, but when they do, they take the internet by storm.
Social media users reacted strongly to the bag, with comments like: “Noooooooo😢 so cruel. Unacceptable,” and “This is where I draw the line.” PETA has noted that while Hermès never officially sold elephant skin purses, the elephants were allegedly killed on safaris in the ’80s.
On All’s Fair, Kardashian worked with stylist Soki Mak to craft the wardrobe for her character, Allura. Their inspiration included vintage pieces from designers such as Donna Karan and John Galliano. Despite the high-fashion styling, some viewers criticized Kardashian’s wardrobe as “unrealistic” for a lawyer. Mak defended the choices, saying the goal was to portray Allura as confident, unapologetic, and uniquely stylish.
The show, however, has received overwhelmingly negative reviews. All’s Fair holds a 0% rating on Rotten Tomatoes and is currently at just 3%. Critics called it a “trainwreck” and “the worst TV show of the year.” Still, some cast members defended the series, emphasizing that it resonates differently with each viewer.
Despite the criticism, All’s Fair was a viewership hit, launching at No. 1 on Hulu’s charts and earning the title for best original scripted premiere in three years. The series has already been renewed for a second season.
