Coronation Street legend Beverley Callard has issued another update following her cancer diagnosis.

Actress Beverley, who is 69, is best known for playing the role of Liz McDonald in the ITV soap. Earlier this year, she revealed she’s been diagnosed with breast cancer.

Beverley had relocated to Dublin, prior to undertaking her new role in Irish soap Fair City, where she explained that she heard she had cancer ‘literally 15 to 20 minutes before’ filming her first scenes for the show, with her consultant calling her as she waited in her dressing room.

‘I’d had some tests just before I left the UK. I was in my dressing room at Fair City, getting ready to go on, and I was quite nervous and thinking, ‘I hope everybody thinks I’m all right, and my consultant rang me and said, ‘You’ve got to come back to the UK,’ she explained while appearing on RTÉs The Late Late Show.

‘I said, “Well I can’t possibly, I’ve just taken a new job, I’m away for a month”. I was diagnosed with breast cancer. But I’m fine. I’m absolutely fine. My head was a bit mashed for the first few days.’

Beverley continued to film her journey, including an operation she underwent to remove lymph nodes and her recovery afterwards. Flooded with support from fans and co-stars alike, she’s been deeply praised for documenting the very real journey that so many women undertake after a formal breast cancer diagnosis.

This week, Beverley returned to Instagram to inform her followers of another update. The beloved star looked anxious in her video, as she shared that she’s been asked to attend a meeting with another consultant regarding her test results.

‘I don’t know what that means’, Beverley said.

‘I’m sort of like, okay, I just thought the nurse was going to ring. I spoke to one of the cancer nurses last week, she was great, and she said we’ll ring you as soon as we know anything.’

She wonders why she hasn’t received a phone call yet. ‘Why have they not rung me yet? Am I mistaken? I don’t know, but I’ll know more on Thursday at 12. I will be glad when John’s home. I wasn’t going to tell him.’

Beverley added: ‘I just wondered if this has happened to anyone else.’

Amid her worry, Beverley has been inundated with supportive messages from her followers, who are all doing their best to try and reassure her.

This Instagram user said: ‘Sending lots of love and will be thinking of you on Thursday. It’s all just worrying, which isn’t fair on anyone going through it. But it could just be your next steps. It’s easy to say don’t worry, but you will, that’s only natural. I’m glad you’re staying strong, that mentality helps more than anything.’

Another wrote: ‘I think they often want to talk things through…please don’t worry…it’s good they want to see you to explain everything and you can ask them any questions, or discuss any worry’s you may have…we are all here for you ! I hate that you are having to wait so long Bev, the worry makes everything feel worse.’

This follower of Beverley’s also shared their own experience and said: ‘I had my treatment at NNUH & I had to have a consultation to get my results too. I think it’s standard practice there. It was good news for me that they’d got it all with good margins. I know it’s practically impossible but try very hard not to assume the worst. We ALL do it & feel the same way so how you’re feeling is completely normal sweetheart. I send much love & hope for positive news on Thursday.’

Beverley is currently featuring in the latest series of I’m A Celebrity: South Africa, which features stars from past series thrown together to battle it out and become a true legend of the show.

Beverley stars alongside stars including Scarlett Moffatt, Seann Walsh and Gemma Collins.
