Grimes has claimed that her ex-partner and co-parent, Elon Musk, has blocked her on his social media platform X, calling the situation “silly” as she emphasized that her focus remains on their children.
The 37-year-old singer, who shares three children with the 54-year-old tech billionaire, addressed the situation after an X user noticed she no longer appeared to follow Musk. In a post on Thursday, Dec. 11, Grimes said Musk had followed her before blocking her.
“For context, I’m just living my life,” she wrote. “He followed me then blocked me. I’m not going to be following and unfollowing. My only priority is co-parenting. I’m not interested in public dramatics.” She added, “This is so silly.”
Grimes and Musk were first linked in 2018 and welcomed their first child, son X Æ A-Xii, in May 2020. The former couple later had two more children: daughter Exa Dark Sideræl, born via surrogate in December 2021, and son Techno Mechanicus, born in June 2022.
In October 2023, Grimes filed a petition to establish parental rights for all three children, according to court records. The following year, she revealed that a custody dispute with Musk had affected her music career.
In a November 2024 post on X, Grimes said she delayed releasing new music while spending a year involved in a custody battle, alleging that her social media posts and modeling work were used against her. She also claimed she went five months without seeing one of her children.
“This is only what can be said publicly,” she wrote, adding that much of her experience should remain private.
Grimes later expressed frustration with Musk’s parenting decisions after he brought their then 4-year-old son, X, to the Oval Office in February. She said she was unaware of the appearance and learned about it through social media.
“He should not be in public like this,” Grimes wrote at the time. “I did not see this. Thank you for alerting me. But I’m glad he was polite.”
In a February interview with TIME, Grimes addressed criticism she received after speaking out, saying she wanted people to stop widely sharing images of her children.
“Fame is something you should consent to,” she said, adding that she hoped her children could remain out of the public eye.
In March, Grimes again raised concerns about her children’s privacy, saying she had repeatedly asked both the public and Musk to keep them offline. She also said she had attempted legal options but felt limited in her ability to protect her children from constant public exposure.
“The state of my children’s lives being public is of grave concern to me,” she wrote. “I think about how to solve this every day.”
