“Early this morning, my soulmate Gil lost his courageous battle with a rare and aggressively fast-moving form of cancer,” Janet Gerard shared on Facebook. “From the moment we sensed something was wrong to this morning, only days had passed. Every moment with him was precious, but even a lifetime together would never have been enough. Hold close the people you love and cherish every single moment with them.”
Born in 1943, Gil Gerard became an icon of 1970s science fiction with his portrayal of the charming and daring NASA Captain William “Buck” Rogers. The character, first brought to life in a 1979 feature film, quickly transitioned to television later that year, when NBC launched the Buck Rogers series.
