Coronation Street‘s Daniel Osbourne is riddled with nerves next week, as a social worker arrives to check on him and Bertie. Can Daniel prove that he’s fit to care for his son?
It’s no secret that Daniel’s parenting skills have left a lot to be desired recently, triggered mostly by Megan Walsh’s twisted lies and Jodie Ramsey’s online trolling campaign.
So when a social worker visits 19a, it’s up to her to decide whether or not Daniel is capable of looking after little Bertie…
“Daniel is understandably anxious about the visit,” reveals our Corrie source. “He loves Bertie with all his heart, and he would be beyond bereft if his son was taken away from him.
“But Daniel knows deep down that he’s been a mess as of late, and whether he can keep it together in this high-pressure situation is anyone’s guess.”
Once Daniel lets the case worker in, she settles down with Bertie on the sofa for a chat. As Daniel watches on from the kitchen, will Bertie reveal how negligent his dad has been recently?
After the visit, Daniel apologises to Adam Barlow and Alya Nazir for an earlier misunderstanding, before explaining that he is grateful for their help.
But there is something else that Daniel has on his mind as he reveals to the couple that he thinks he knows who called social services on him.
Who does Daniel think is to blame? And will Daniel still have custody of Bertie in the coming weeks?
Speaking recently about his character’s downward spiral, Rob Mallard – who plays Daniel – explained: “It’s the most fun to play from an actor’s perspective, definitely.
“But you can’t do it for too long, otherwise the audience goes off you! They’ve got to be able to see both sides to relate to the sudden loss of control.”
He added: “I think he could keep going further. Once someone gets a bit of mud on them, you might as well get properly dirty.
“In terms of Daniel’s character, if he’s going to go off the rails, he should go off them properly, possibly even lose custody of Bertie temporarily, really teach him a lesson.”
