NFL insider Jeremy Fowler recently floated an intriguing idea: Stefon Diggs and the Kansas City Chiefs could be a perfect match.
According to Fowler, the fit makes football sense, but the financial side is where things get complicated.
“Kansas City makes some sense… They could use an extra body. But they haven’t really been in spend mode, and they just gave Patrick Mahomes more money.”
That raises an interesting question…
Do the Chiefs still need another star receiver?
Kansas City is expected to head into the 2026 season with Rashee Rice, Xavier Worthy, and Tyquan Thornton leading the receiver room. It’s a talented group with plenty of speed and upside, but it’s also largely the same core from last season—when the offense wasn’t as explosive as fans had hoped.
Behind them, the depth becomes much less proven, making injuries a real concern over a long NFL season.
What would Diggs bring?
Even at this stage of his career, Diggs remains one of the league’s most polished route runners and reliable playmakers. Fresh off another 1,000-yard season, he has shown he can still create separation and be a quarterback’s trusted target.
Imagine Patrick Mahomes having:
- 🔥 Rashee Rice’s physicality
- ⚡ Xavier Worthy’s elite speed
- 🎯 Stefon Diggs’ veteran route running
That combination could give defensive coordinators nightmares.
The biggest obstacle?
Money.
The Chiefs have been careful with their spending, and after rewarding Patrick Mahomes with a restructured contract, they may not have the flexibility to meet Diggs’ asking price. If another receiver-needy team offers more, Kansas City could simply be outbid.
For now, this remains speculation—but it’s certainly one of the more interesting possibilities still on the table before the season begins.
