Hundreds of firefighters rushed to a massive blaze aboard a cargo ship docked at the Port of Los Angeles on Friday night. All 23 crew members were safely evacuated, with no injuries reported. The ship, carrying hazardous cargo, caught fire below deck due to an electrical fault.

 

The fire spread quickly, engulfing several levels of the 1,102-foot-long vessel, before a mid-deck explosion rocked the ship.

Mayor Karen Bass issued a shelter-in-place order for nearby communities, urging residents to stay home, keep windows closed, and turn off HVAC systems while firefighters continue their efforts

The ship, One Henry Hudson, is operated by One Ocean Express of Singapore and was previously in Japan, visiting Kobe, Nagoya, and Tokyo. The company confirmed all crew are safe and thanked first responders, while closely monitoring the situation.
