Prince Harry and Meghan Markle tipped to stay at Princess Diana’s family estate during UK return

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle could potentially stay in Althorp House during their stay in the UK, it has been claimed.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are confirmed to be attending the one-year-to-go events for the Invictus Games in Birmingham between July 10 and July 17, 2026.

Althorp House, the ancestral home of Prince Harry’s late mother, Diana, Princess of Wales, is only an hour’s drive away from Birmingham, making the location a logical choice.

According to the website for the stately home, Althorp House will be closed between July 10 and July 11.

The property opens annually to the public between July 1 and August 31, as Diana fans from across the globe hope to see the childhood home of the late princess.

The fact that the property will be shut for two days during this period indicates that the Sussexes could be staying with Earl Charles Spencer, Diana’s younger brother, during the one-year-to-go Invictus events.

According to Hello!, the residence has been offered to Harry and Meghan, but the couple have not yet decided whether to stay there.

It has not been confirmed if the Duke and Duchess of Sussex will receive taxpayer-funded security during their stay.

Earl Spencer’s representatives declined to comment when contacted by GB News. The People’s Channel has approached the Sussexes’ spokesman.

Harry, 41, and Meghan, 44, are confirmed to be taking their children, Prince Archie, seven, and Princess Lilibet, five, to the UK for the first time since 2022.

Archie was born in the Portland Hospital in Westminster on May 6, 2019, and spent the first five months of his life in Frogmore Cottage in Windsor before relocating to the United States.Althorp

Lilibet, on the other hand, was born in Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital on June 4, 2021.

She returned to the UK as a one-year-old to celebrate Queen Elizabeth II’s Platinum Jubilee, where she also met King Charles for the first time.

The Sussexes had already moved to Montecito, California, a stone’s throw away from Los Angeles, where Meghan’s mother, Doria Ragland, lives.

The funeral was also attended by Prince William, but it is understood that the estranged brothers did not speak during the service.

In addition, Harry detailed in his memoir Spare about his visit to Princess Diana’s grave with Meghan on the 25th anniversary of her death.

The late royal is resting on an island in the Oval Lake at the Althorp Estate.

The duke wrote: “No visit to this place was ever easy, but this one… Twenty-fifth anniversary. And Meg’s first time. At long last, I was bringing the girl of my dreams home to meet mum. We hesitated, hugging, and then I went first.

“I placed flowers on the grave. Meg gave me a moment, and I spoke to my mother in my head, told her I missed her, and asked her for guidance and clarity.”
