This article contains spoilers for tonight’s (Friday, May 15) Coronation Street, which has not yet aired on TV but is available to watch now on YouTube and ITVX.

Poor Sam Blakeman (Jude Riordan) appears to be suffering a psychotic episode in Coronation Street, and his brain is using trusted figure Roy Cropper (David Neilson) to convince him that he is in danger.

Sam’s anxiety was kicked off by sinister predator Megan Walsh (Beth Nixon), after he discovered that she had been grooming Will Driscoll (Lucas Hodgson-Wale).

Megan went to extreme lengths to keep Sam quiet, from sabotaging his grades to threatening to tell everyone he was a creep.

Now that Megan has been exposed, Sam is still extremely on edge, to the extent that he has been hallucinating Will and fighting with him.

In tonight’s episode, Nick Tilsley (Ben Price) expressed his concerns for his son to Roy, asking him to spend some time with him.

Roy and Sam have a sweet relationship, built on the strong foundation of their shared love of chess.

Tonight, Roy challenged Sam to a game, and quickly noticed some worrying signs in his behaviour.

Sam produced a tracking device from his school bag and shared his fears that it had been planted by his classmates. When Roy shared this with Nick and Toyah Battersby (Georgia Taylor), Nick admitted that he had planted it so that he could keep an eye on Sam’s coming and goings.

Both Roy and Toyah agreed that this would have had a detrimental impact on his paranoia, but none of them were aware of just how bad things already were.

It transpired that Sam had been hallucinating Roy when he left the room to take a call from the builder, who was working on the café after the fire, and this hallucination continued after their game of chess.

In a chilling conversation, Sam asked the vision of Roy why everyone was out to get him, and the response he received was terrifying.

You’ll have to watch the episode to find out exactly what Roy said, but it has the potential to push Sam to violence.

Will the real Roy, Toyah and Nick work out what is wrong with Sam before something terrible happens?
