Coronation Street fans are worried they have rumbled Carl Webster’s ‘plan’ as he’s been confirmed to be playing with fire in upcoming scenes ahead of his possible death.

As fans of the ITV soap know, the character’s arrival in Weatherfield last year is the first time viewers have ever seen him, with the younger half-sibling of Kevin and Debbie Webster having only been mentioned by name previously.

An affair with his sister-in-law, Abi Webster, and a fling with neighbour James Bailey has since followed, but more importantly, it was recently revealed that Carl is actually Debbie’s son, with the truth coming out as she took the blame for him following a horror crash in January that caused the death of Weatherfield vicar, Billy Mayhew.

Carl discovered the truth as he admitted his guilt over the horror crash, which took place in January and claimed the life of vicar Billy Mayhew, as he was letting Debbie take the blame after he coldly pulled her from the passenger side into the driver’s seat at the time of the incident to make it seem like she was behind the wheel.

After discovering Debbie was his mum, the villain wanted to see Debbie punished, and let her carry on with her plan to take the blame for the accident and Billy’s death, for which she was sentenced to two years and eight months in prison, and Corrie have since seen the hotel owner’s health heartbreakingly deteriorate, with her having been diagnosed with dementia last year.

However, with her dementia symptoms worsening, her family and solicitor Adam Barlow set about an appeal, which was a success and has seen Debbie freed. But wasting no time, Carl has already approached Debbie for money, even making it seem like he had forgiven her for lying to him all these years.

During Monday’s (April 6) episode of Corrie, Debbie was seen heading back to work at the Chariot Square Hotel, despite her husband, Ronnie Bailey, wanting her to spend more time with him and at home first. Despite Debbie wanting to get back to some normality, she was also hiding the fact that Carl had asked her to send him £10,000 to pay off his debt to a dodgy car dealer, Fiona.

But when Ronnie found out what was going on, he did some digging of his own and later revealed to his heartbroken wife that Carl’s debt with Fiona was only £5,000 and that he was trying to fleece her once again. It left Debbie telling Carl she was ‘done’ and that she couldn’t carry on with him anymore.

And Corrie fans think this will only fuel Carl to act out further, with it already confirmed that he is among the five possible victims of a murder that is set to rock the cobbles later this month.

@Fake_TV_Chef said: “Debbie cutting Carl off now that she’s lucid but will he take advantage when she has a memory symptom? A part of me thinks Carl will ruin the hotel as retaliation thus ruining the #Swarla wedding but another part says if he ruins the hotel he won’t have a place to live. #Corrie.” @zh2zp58kwr replied: “I just hope she now agrees to make Ronnie her Power of Attorney for financial matters for when she can’t make those decisions.”

@1stLadyHooligan shared: “If something isn’t done to stop Carl from taking Debbie for every penny she has then I can see her losing everything including Ronnie & Carl ain’t worth it. #corrie.” @wandaxmoods added: “The only thing that would be better than Todd killing Theo, would be Debbie killing Carl #corrie.”

It comes as spoilers for next week’s Corrie have revealed Carl’s behaviour only continues to cause problems for Debbie. They say that she calls Christina Boyd, Glenda Shuttleworth, Sally Metcalfe and Bernie Winter together and suggests they organise a girls’ trip away. However, the mood is ruined when Bernie reveals that Carl has offered to share some information with Summer regarding Billy’s death in exchange for Billy’s life insurance.

A furious Debbie confronts Carl over Summer’s allegation. Not satisfied, she later summons Carl to the flat and quizzes him again about Summer’s claim that he tried to extort money from her in return for information about Billy’s death. When Carl reveals that he heard someone confess to Billy’s murder but he’s not willing to reveal who, Debbie’s disgusted with him and throws him out.

As Debbie stares vacantly ahead, Ryan’ Connor’s concerned to realise she’s having one of her episodes. Ryan tells her husband Ronnie Bailey about Debbie and Carl’s row and how it triggered another episode. How will Ronnie react? It does seem like he has a plan up his sleeve as later, Carl calls at the hotel to see Ronnie about his offer, will he accept it?
