Timothy Busfield Erased From Amazon Rom-Com as Child Sex Abuse Scandal Explodes

Hollywood is swiftly distancing itself from Timothy Busfield.

The 68-year-old actor has been completely edited out of Amazon MGM’s upcoming romantic comedy You Deserve Each Other following a wave of shocking child sex abuse allegations.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Busfield will no longer appear in the film — which stars Meghann Fahy, Penn Badgley, Kyle MacLachlan and Justin Long — as studios scramble to cut ties with the embattled actor.

Directed by Marc Silverstein and Abby Kohn and based on Sarah Hogle’s bestselling novel, the rom-com follows an engaged couple who attempt to sabotage their own wedding after falling out of love — only to unexpectedly fall for each other again.

Busfield had been cast as Bernie, the father of Fahy’s character Naomi. But with production already wrapped, editors now face the challenge of digitally removing him from every scene he appears in. The film has yet to receive a release date.

Amazon MGM Studios and Busfield’s legal team have declined to comment.

But the fallout doesn’t stop there.

Busfield has also been quietly cut from an upcoming episode of Law & Order: SVU. NBC confirmed last week that the episode — scheduled to air January 15 and featuring Busfield as a judge — has been pulled from the broadcast schedule entirely.

His talent agency, Innovative Artists, has also dropped him amid the mounting scandal.

The former West Wing and Field of Dreams star was arrested earlier this month after being accused of inappropriately touching twin boys on the set of Fox’s The Cleaning Lady.

Court documents allege the abuse began in 2022, when the boys were just seven years old. The case first surfaced in November 2024, after a doctor reported suspected sexual abuse and grooming during a hospital examination in New Mexico.

Busfield told police it was “highly likely” he had touched children on set, claiming there were no clear rules about physical contact during filming.

However, newly released police audio appears to complicate the case.

In the recording from November 2024, the boys can be heard telling investigators that Busfield never touched their private parts. His attorneys presented the audio in court this week, calling it an “unequivocal denial” of any inappropriate conduct.

Despite the conflicting claims, Busfield surrendered to authorities on January 13 and now faces two counts of criminal sexual contact with a minor and one count of child abuse. He has not yet entered a plea.

The scandal deepened further when prosecutors revealed a third alleged victim.

In a separate filing, Busfield is accused of sexually assaulting a 16-year-old girl “several years ago” during an audition in Sacramento, California. He has not been charged in connection with that claim.

Now behind bars and being held without bond at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Albuquerque, Busfield awaits his next court appearance on January 20.

As Hollywood continues to erase him from projects and the legal storm intensifies, the once-respected actor’s career — and legacy — appear to be unraveling in real time.
