Gisele Bündchen’s family is reportedly expressing concern over the supermodel’s decision to marry her longtime partner and baby daddy, jiu-jitsu instructor Joaquim Valente, amid fears she may not have fully protected herself financially.
According to a source speaking to Page Six, Bündchen’s loved ones warned her about the risks of tying the knot with someone whose financial standing is vastly different from her own.
“Her family warned her that marrying a penniless guy when she is worth millions is a mistake,” the source claimed.
While Valente is far from unknown — he co-runs a jiu-jitsu academy in Miami with his brothers and trains several celebrity clients — his level of wealth and global fame is said to pale in comparison to Bündchen’s.
The Brazilian supermodel has repeatedly been named the world’s highest-paid model and is estimated to have amassed a fortune of around $400 million, according to Celebrity Net Worth.
Insiders say Bündchen’s family initially encouraged her to live with Valente rather than rush into marriage.
“Her family told her to just live with him,” the source said. “But between Valente’s pressure and her traditional values, she felt that since they now share a child, marriage made sense.”
The couple welcomed a son in February and, as previously reported by Page Six, quietly tied the knot in a private ceremony in November.
At the time, another source revealed that Valente was “thrilled they finally tied the knot after having a child together.”
Although Bündchen and Valente reportedly signed a prenuptial agreement, sources claim it did not offer the level of protection her family had hoped for.
“There is a prenup, but it includes some loopholes,” the source explained. “If they divorce, there would still be a financial settlement for him.”
Bündchen’s financial success is legendary. In 2000, she signed what was then the largest modeling contract in history — a $25 million, five-year deal with Victoria’s Secret. Over the years, she fronted campaigns for major brands including Chanel, Pantene, Under Armour, Apple, and IWC, and also held ownership stakes in fashion and footwear lines.
Family has always played a central role in Bündchen’s life. She remains close to her father, Vladir, and her five sisters — Raquel, Graziela, Gabriela, Rafaela, and her fraternal twin, Patricia.
“My family is everything to me, and my sisters are my best friends, even if we sometimes disagree,” Bündchen told People in May 2023.
Her mother, Vânia, passed away in January 2024 at the age of 75 after a battle with cancer.
Bündchen was previously married to NFL superstar Tom Brady. The former couple divorced in 2022 and share two children: son Benjamin, 16, and daughter Vivian, 13.
Representatives for Bündchen and Valente did not respond to requests for comment.
