At 100 years old, Julius Campbell is living proof that dedication to community and faith can shape an extraordinary life. Not only has he reached a milestone age, but he continues to devote his time and energy to serving others with quiet strength and unwavering kindness.
Throughout his remarkable journey, Campbell has worn many hats. He is a World War II Navy veteran, a church founder, a longtime educator, and a counselor with advanced degrees. Yet despite all these achievements, what defines him most is his heart for service.
For more than three decades, Campbell has stood at Milwaukee street corners as a crossing guard, greeting generations of students with a warm smile and words of encouragement. To him, this isn’t just a job — it’s a way to stay connected with the community he loves. He treasures the friendships he has built and the mutual respect shared with families and neighbors.
His contributions have not gone unnoticed. Over the years, Campbell has received numerous awards honoring his leadership and commitment to the public, even being recognized with a day named after him by the mayor. But what moves him most is being appreciated while still here to witness it — the “flowers while he’s alive,” as he says.
Service, however, didn’t begin at the crosswalk. Campbell discovered his calling to preach at only 14 years old. Since then, he has guided young people, supported families in need, and founded his own church, offering food, clothing, books, and spiritual support. For him, serving God and the community isn’t work — it’s a lifelong passion.
Even now, retirement is nowhere in his plans. Campbell hopes to remain healthy in mind and body, continue ministering, and keep showing up for the people around him. After reaching his longtime goal of turning 100, he has already set a new one: living to 104.
More than a milestone age, Julius Campbell’s life is a testament to purpose. His story reminds us that true fulfillment comes from giving — and that a generous spirit never grows old.
