Rachael Ray made a rare public appearance this week as concern among fans continues to grow over what many have described as her recent “odd behavior.”
The celebrity chef, 57, was photographed arriving at the The Drew Barrymore Show studio in New York City on Wednesday, dressed in a brown leather bomber jacket layered over a colorful vest and paired with brown corduroy trousers. She accessorized the look with transparent-frame glasses, a blue crocodile-print handbag, and black-and-gold combat-style shoes.
Ray, who wore her long brown hair straight around her shoulders, appeared noticeably subdued as she entered the CBS studio. She’s set to appear on Friday’s episode of the talk show, where she’ll join host Drew Barrymore in the kitchen to share a recipe.
Concerns first emerged in July
Fans first began expressing concern in July, when Ray attended an event to promote her new gin line at Broadway Spirits.
According to Daily Mail, dozens of fans had paid $50 to meet the TV star and waited in the summer heat for her to arrive — only for Ray to show up 20 minutes late. Witnesses told the outlet that something “seemed off” as she greeted fans and handed out bottles of gin and baseball caps.
“She got oddly close to some people, hugging them in a way that seemed overly familiar as she posed for photos,” an insider claimed. The source also compared Ray’s touchy demeanor to Barrymore’s famously affectionate interactions with guests on her show.
After arriving late, Ray reportedly wrapped up the meet-and-greet in less than an hour.
Viral video heightened fan worries
In May, Ray alarmed fans with a viral cooking video in which she appeared to slur her words and mentioned having suffered “a couple of bad falls.”
Although her message focused on her personal journey of overcoming poverty, many viewers were struck by her appearance and speech, flooding the comments with messages of concern.
“I don’t recognize Rachel ,” one fan wrote.
“Rachel, are you okay? You don’t look well,” another added.
A long-time household name
Ray rose to fame in the early 2000s with 30 Minute Meals on Food Network, where her approachable cooking style and upbeat personality made her a household name. She later launched her own syndicated talk show, Rachael Ray, and lifestyle magazine Every Day with Rachael Ray.
While she has mostly kept a low profile in recent months, her latest appearance and increasingly concerned fan reactions have sparked fresh speculation about her health and well-being.
