NFL Fans Rip Reports That Swift Boosted Female Viewership

Taylor Swift became the face of football after she showed up at Arrowhead Stadium in September 2023. The pop megastar’s romance with Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce turned her into a regular at games. Media coverage exploded. Camera cuts to Swift became as common as third-down conversions.

The 2025 SSRS Sports Poll shows 47% of the U.S. NFL fan base is female now. Women represent 40% of the league’s international growth and the credit has already been given to the pop icon.

But longtime fans aren’t buying it. They’re calling it false revisionist history. The claim that Swift brought women to football struck a nerve across the gridiron.

The backlash centers on one point. Women have always been here. Diehards packed into stadiums decades before Swift knew what a tight end was. They wore jerseys. They thrashed at refs for wrong calls. They built fantasy rosters and crushed their brackets.

Celebrity culture is driving fans mad. Swift gets broadcast time that game-changing plays don’t. When the narrative said that she saved female viewership, that’s where fans started drawing the line.

One fan bluntly wrote, “Sorry Miss Taylor because this is absolutely false.”

Another asked, “Did women make half of the fan base 10 years ago and 20 years ago?”

A third user wrote, “Ten years ago, women made up 49% of fan base. We have always been there and welcome more like TS.”

A fourth user noted, “Please explain to me how you’re crediting Taylor for an increase in female viewers across the ENTIRE league.”

The fifth, who questioned the validity of the data, remarked, “Call me when the @NFL is doing more to protect women from the rape and assault by brain damaged, aggressive, impulse control problematic football players.”

Another celebrity culture hater noted, “According to who? Where did they pull this bullshit from?”

Earlier stats show women made up 47% of NFL fans back in 2020. The numbers haven’t changed much. What changed is the media attention.

Real Numbers Behind The Swift Effect

Chiefs owner Gracie Hunt said Swift grew the team’s following by 30 to 40% since attending her first game in 2023. That’s one franchise, not the whole league.

After Swift attended the Chiefs-Bears game, Kelce jersey sales spiked 400%. His podcast hit number one on Apple. He gained 383,000 Instagram followers overnight. The game pulled 24.3 million viewers. Female viewers aged 18-49 jumped 63%.

Reports from February of this year claimed the pop icon brought in an estimated $1 billion for the NFL. The league raised the salary cap by over $25 million.

This season, 358 women hold coaching and football operations jobs in the league, up from just 92 in 2020. Sam Rapoport, NFL diversity consultant, said the goal is balance, not just female domination.

Swift accelerated something already in motion. So, a handful of fans think she didn’t create it.
