🚨 Legendary Marine Raider Promoted to Sergeant at 100 — A Century of Courage and Honor 🇺🇸

Frank S. Wright Promoted To Sergeant

At 100 years old, Frank S. Wright, one of the original World War II Marine Raiders, has finally received the promotion he’s dreamed of for decades — honorary Sergeant of the U.S. Marine Corps!

From Guadalcanal to Iwo Jima, Wright survived bayonet and gunshot wounds, earning two Purple Hearts along the way. For over 80 years, he carried the heart and courage of a Marine, never losing sight of that final milestone: the rank of sergeant.

“I spent two-and-a-half years in the South Pacific… I was wounded twice. I have two Purple Hearts. That’s one of the reasons they thought I’d be eligible for this,” Wright told Task & Purpose.

On August 31, Wright’s dream came true at a ceremony in Stockton, California, where he donned his WWII Marine uniform once again. The honor was made even more meaningful as his two sons pinned the chevrons, officially making him the newest and oldest Sergeant of Marines.

Marine Corps Commandant Gen. Eric Smith said it best:

“Recommending Frank for this honorary promotion was an easy decision. His courageous service during the Pacific Campaign, including at historic battles like Guadalcanal and Iwo Jima, has firmly cemented his place in the legacy of the Corps.”

Even at 100, Wright continues to inspire, mentoring young Americans considering enlistment, proving that the heart of a Marine never fades.

“I am a Marine, and I shall be a Marine for the rest of my life,” Wright said proudly.
