Amid the longest government shutdown in modern history, the Pentagon just dropped major news: U.S. service members will still receive their end-of-month paychecks — despite Congress failing to pass a spending bill.
In a statement Thursday, a Defense Department official said President Donald Trump is “making good on his promise to take care of the troops,” and confirmed that payments are secured for this week.
So… where’s the money coming from? 💸
According to Axios, the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) scrambled to find $2.5 billion from military housing funds, $1.4 billion from research and testing programs, and another $1.4 billion from shipbuilding — all redirected to make sure soldiers, sailors, airmen, Marines, and Space Force Guardians get paid on time.
But the relief might be short-lived. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent warned that troops may miss their November 15 paycheck if the shutdown isn’t resolved soon.
