Over the weekend, social media erupted after images surfaced of Donald Trump appearing to close his eyes during an Oval Office announcement on Thursday.
The 79-year-old president was speaking from behind the Resolute Desk, unveiling a plan to cut prices for popular weight-loss drugs. But what caught the internet’s attention wasn’t the policy — it was the president’s eyes. 👀
At several points, Trump seemed to struggle to keep them open, rubbing his eyes and appearing tired — moments critics quickly seized upon.
California Gov. Gavin Newsom’s team even joined in, posting screenshots with the caption: “DOZY DON IS BACK.”
The White House, however, fired back immediately.
“The President was not sleeping,” spokesperson Taylor Rogers told CNN. “He spoke throughout, took questions, and delivered a historic announcement that will save countless American lives.”
Officials also pointed out Trump’s busy schedule — from a one-hour Miami speech the day before to a three-nation Asia tour just weeks earlier — calling him one of the most tireless presidents in U.S. history.
Still, questions about his health and stamina continue to circulate. Trump, now the oldest man ever elected to the presidency, has been open about recent medical exams, including an MRI and treatment for chronic venous insufficiency — a condition that affects blood flow in the legs.
Ironically, Trump has long branded his rival Joe Biden as “Sleepy Joe.” Now, with these images circulating, critics are flipping that label right back at him.
⚡️Whether you see exhaustion or just a pause between blinks, one thing’s for sure — the internet never misses a moment.
“Caught Napping? 😴 Critics call out Trump after Oval Office clip goes viral — but the White House says there’s more to the story.”
