No player can truly replace Travis Kelce.
But if Kansas City had to choose one young tight end to carry the torch after the future Hall of Famer retires, Sam LaPorta might be the closest thing available.
A new trade proposal from Bleacher Report suggests the Chiefs could send a 1st-round and 3rd-round pick to Detroit in exchange for the Lions’ star tight end.
It’s a bold idea.
But it’s also one that makes a lot of sense.
LaPorta exploded onto the NFL scene with an incredible rookie season, recording 86 catches, 889 yards, and 10 touchdowns.
While injuries slowed him down in 2025, his talent remains undeniable.
Imagine this:
🔥 Patrick Mahomes at quarterback
🔥 Travis Kelce mentoring him for one final season
🔥 Sam LaPorta learning Andy Reid’s offense
Then taking over as TE1 in 2027.
That sounds like a dream scenario for Chiefs Kingdom.
The biggest question?
Would Kansas City really be willing to part with a first-round pick to secure Kelce’s long-term replacement?
For now it’s only a hypothetical trade.
But if the opportunity ever became real, it’s hard not to imagine how dangerous the Chiefs offense could become.
