🚨 ALERT: 168 Military Commissaries Could Close Right After Thanksgiving! 🛒💥

U.S. service members are being warned: if the government shutdown continues, hundreds of commissary stores across the country could shut down in early December. But don’t panic yet—stores will remain open through Thanksgiving, and overseas locations will stay open for another month.Nearly all commissaries on military bases in the U.S. could close in early December if the government shutdown continues.

According to the Defense Commissary Agency (DECA), shelves will stay stocked to serve military families for Thanksgiving, but starting Nov. 14, restocking will slow down. Most U.S. commissaries could close by Dec. 3 if the shutdown drags on.

💬 Kevin Robinson, DECA spokesperson: “We’re committed to serving our customers through Thanksgiving. After that, if the shutdown continues, operations will begin winding down.”

Commissaries provide groceries, household essentials, and discounted goods to over 1.7 million military families each month, with nearly $5 billion in annual sales. But without federal funding, DECA is running on reserves, which will run out right after Thanksgiving, forcing many stores to close.

🌍 Good news for overseas bases: stores in Hawaii, Puerto Rico, and “food desert” locations like Alaska, California, and Washington will stay open longer, but fresh shipments could stop by late December–mid-January.

🏛️ As for Congress, don’t expect a quick fix. Rep. Mike Rogers warns: “If commissaries close, military families will face serious hardships. We can’t address each issue piecemeal while the shutdown continues.”

💡 Summary:

  • 168 U.S. stores at risk of closing early December
  • Stores remain open through Thanksgiving
  • Restocking slows Nov. 14
  • Overseas, Hawaii, Puerto Rico locations open through late Dec–mid-Jan
  • Congress unlikely to intervene before a major shutdown deal
